Geodynamica consists of three distinct teams: Editorial Team, Technical Team, Media & Outreach Team, in addition to a Steering Committee.

EDITORIAL TEAM
The Editorial Team is made of at least 10 editors, whose expertise covers one or more themes from the journal scope, ensuring that articles are handled in a timely manner. Editors will serve a minimum term of 3 years (i.e., editorial term). To enforce the community aspect of Geodynamica and enable the wider geodynamics community to contribute to the journal, half of the editorial team will be renewed at the end of each editorial term.
The number of editors can be increased, during an editorial term or at the start of a new editorial term, as needed.
Responsibilities (3-year-term)
- Facilitating the peer review process and determining whether articles are of appropriate scope and quality to be published:
- Receiving submissions and carrying out a first-pass assessment to determine a priori suitability for publication in Geodynamica.
- Checking the scientific integrity of articles.
- Handling individual manuscripts from submission to (accept/reject) decision, in accordance with Geodynamica editor guidelines.
- Seeking out potential reviewers and facilitating the peer review process from start to finish.
- Ensuring that articles are handled fairly and in a timely manner.
- After article acceptance, liaising with the Production Team towards finalising the publication-ready version of the manuscript.
- Managing author and reviewer complaints, escalating them to their respective Editor when required, and helping resolve them.
- Flagging the need to increase the team according to the expected increase in submissions over time.
- Act as Geodynamica representatives at conferences and social events, promoting diamond open access and developing relationships with the wider geodynamics community.
Recruitment criteria for editorial positions
- Enthusiasm towards diamond open access publishing, and commitment to Geodynamica ethos and success.
- PhD degree in geodynamics or related field (or relevant experience).
- Prior editorial experience (highly desirable but not essential).
TECHNICAL TEAM
The Technical Team is responsible for carrying out copy-editing, typesetting, and proofreading accepted manuscripts, and other technical processes required before and after an article’s publication. The Technical Team is also responsible for maintaining the submission platform (JANEWAY) and liaising with eScholarship when needed.
Responsibilities
- Production Chief (2-year term)
- Acting as the final pair of eyes overseeing that all articles meet Geodynamica’s standards after the copy-editing process has been completed and before publication online.
- Leading and coordinating the team of typesetters and copyeditors, identifying and flagging the need to increase the team according to the expected increase in submissions over time.
- Contributing to the update of branding guidelines and article templates.
- Compiling and managing the production of journal issues.
- Liaising with eScholarship.
- Act as Geodynamica representatives at conferences and social events, promoting diamond open access and developing relationships with the wider geodynamics community.
- Deputy Production Chief (2-year-term)
- A deputy production chief will be appointed from the typesetters/copyeditors by the production chief.
- The deputy production chief will assist the production chief in its duties as needed.
- Typesetters/Copyeditors (2-year-term)
- Transforming accepted submissions from manuscripts to formatted publication-ready articles.
- Transferring non-LaTeX submissions to LaTeX(/XML/HTML) format.
- Final manuscript quality check (e.g., citations, grammar, spelling)
Recruitment criteria for technical team positions
- Prior production experience (essential for the Production chief role).
- Demonstrable attention to detail.
- Enthusiasm towards diamond open access publishing, and commitment to Geodynamica ethos and success.
- Fluent in English.
- Experience with LaTeX, MS Word, Typst (desirable), xml (desirable), HTML (desirable).
- Graphic design literacy (desirable).
OUTREACH & MEDIA TEAM
The Outreach and Media Team is responsible for disseminating information and educating the community about Geodynamica and DOA publishing, and evaluating the needs of the community to generate activities and services for them to become involved as part of the open-science effort.
Responsibilities
- Outreach & Media Lead (2-year-term)
- Leading and coordinating the Outreach and Media Team, identifying and flagging the need to increase the team according to the expected increase in workload.
- Act as Geodynamica representatives at conferences and social events, promoting diamond open access and developing relationships with the wider geodynamics community.
- Deputy Outreach & Media Lead (2-year-term)
- A Deputy Outreach & Media Lead will be appointed from the Media & Communication Managers by the Outreach & Media Lead.
- The Deputy Outreach & Media Lead will assist the Outreach & Media Lead in its duties as needed.
- Media & Communication Managers (2-year-term)
- Manage, maintain, upgrade, and update Geodynamica’s website, social media accounts, and their content.
- Post information relevant to Geodynamica on social platforms to keep the community informed and up-to-date (e.g., new publications, conferences, workshops, and other events relevant to the wider geodynamic community)
- Troubleshoot website issues.
- Approve and manage web accounts.
- Contribute where possible to the online promotion and advertising of Geodynamica.

STEERING COMMITTEE
The Steering Committee consists of the following:
- 2 editors: appointed by and from the Editorial Team.
- Production Chief.
- Deputy Production Chief.
- Outreach & Media Lead.
- Deputy Outreach & Media Lead.
Responsibilities:
- Have regular meetings to discuss feedback and news from the three different teams
- Keep a consistent line of communication with and between the different teams to ensure consensus across Geodynamica’s team members
- Discuss and mitigate issues facing the journal teams and their members.
- Approve the assignment of deputies (i.e., Deputy Production Chief, Deputy Outreach & Media Lead).
- Identify the need for additional volunteers, coordinating recruitment rounds and strategies for journal teams.
- Approve new recruitments.
- Ensure that journal teams are fulfilling their duties and tasks
- Ensure that team members have reasonable workload, if not suggest the recruitment of additional volunteers as appropriate.
- Act as representatives of Geodynamica, notably to establish potential links/discussions with other DOAJ
The Steering Committee will meet at least once a month and will compile meeting notes, including action items and decisions, which will be shared with the members of the other teams.
